Flu immunisation planning for GP practices 2018/19
NHS England have published guidance for GP practices planning their Flu vaccination programmes for 2018/19. Given the significant changes to the vaccines used this year it is important that all practices are aware of the advice. In particular the planned deliveries of adjuvanted vaccines. These will be in stages and are the same for all providers including community pharmacies as follows:
September (40%), October (20%) and November (40%). Exact dates of delivery will be confirmed with providers during August.
It is important not to use other vaccines for over 65’s because they are available earlier in the year. Adjuvanted vaccine is much more effective in this age group and flu viruses rarely begin circulating until December. However effective planning to ensure the most vulnerable over 65s are vaccinated first would be advisable.
