Newcastle Gateshead CCG Prescribing Engagement Scheme peer review sessions

Posted on:

Two sessions were provided, one at the Newcastle and one at Gateshead time out educational events. 61 out of 65 Newcastle and Gateshead practices attended.

The aims of this peer review session were:

  • To support the formation of a peer support network of practice prescribing leads – including sharing of contact details, practice resources and examples of good practice.
  • To review baseline prescribing data for each practice and compare with others in the CCG.
  • To discuss the prescribing engagement scheme indicators and ways to improve prescribing.
  • To learn from each other’s experiences
  • To produce an action plan outlining how the practice will undertake the prescribing engagement scheme work.

Practices were provided with a resource pack with prescribing data, information and resources for each of the prescribing engagement scheme indicators.

The sessions and resource pack were extremely well received. All who attended were extremely engaged and enthusiastic in the discussions. The feedback on the session and the resource pack overwhelmingly positive and indicated that GPs particularly valued:

“Getting together with other GPs to share one ideas and experiences”

“The sessions reflected a wide variety of practice needs”,

Some GPs felt they needed more time to discuss the topics and that the sessions were worthwhile but all GPs need to know – can we do something for everyone?

A number of practices have fed back that they have had similar sessions within their practices building on and their experience and shared learning from the peer review sessions, which have been extremely useful and valued by their staff.

Most fed back that they would not only like us to run the sessions next year but would like us to repeat mid-year.

The feedback from all discussions is being collated and will be circulated to all practices in order to share learning.
