Antimicrobial Prescribing Guidance – NICE & PHE Update

Posted on:

Primary care guidance on management of common infections produced by Public Health England (PHE) has been used as the core source document for regional antimicrobial prescribing  guidelines for many years.

NICE have been producing complementary antimicrobial prescribing guidelines for just over a year – with two-page visual summaries available for: sinusitis; sore throat; otitis media; prostatitis; lower UTI; pyelonephritis and recurrent UTI.

NICE and PHE have now brought the two sets of resources together in a new summary table – which should become THE standard reference for advice on primary care management of common infections.

NICE antimicrobial prescribing guidelines covering acute cough and catheter-associated UTIs are due to be published soon.
