Regional Medicines Information Service

Where to turn when usual sources don’t help?

The NHS England commissioned specialist pharmacy service includes a network of regional medicines information centres. The Regional Drug & Therapeutics Centre in Newcastle is commissioned to provide specialist medicines information services to all primary care NHS healthcare professionals –  including GPs, Community Pharmacists, CCG and CSU Medicines Optimisation teams, practice pharmacists, nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals – from the following localities:

North East & Cumbria
North Yorkshire & Humber
West Yorkshire

Enquiries are handled by a multidisciplinary team of pharmacists and specialist medical information scientists, with support from a consultant physician. The team have access to a much wider range of resources than most primary care healthcare professionals, including online databases, books, journals, and in-house files. The service conforms to national standards and specifications, legal and ethical guidance produced by UKMI and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, and is audited regularly. All enquiries are peer reviewed.
